The start-up company will use the funds to grow internationally as it develops its product information management software.

Akeneo is building a name for itself as a provider of open source product information management software. PIM software is designed to make product information and images appear accurately across online and offline channels, helping manufacturers, distributors and retailers ensure they all work with the same accurate content.

Akeneo, founded in France in  2013, operates out of offices in Nantes, France, and Boston. It said today it received $13 million in funding from Partech Ventures, Alven Capital and other investors, including Roy Rubin, a co-founder and former CEO of e-commerce software company Magento Inc. Rubin also serves on Akeneo’s board.

“We work with many brands and distributors that are in the process of moving their operations definitively into the e-commerce world,” says Akeneo CEO and co-founder Frédéric de Gombert. “Our belief is that there cannot be effective and lasting digital transformation if it does not include product data quality as a core focus.”

His co-founders include French entrepreneur and software engineer Nicolas Dupont, Akeneo chief technology officer Benoit Jacquemont, and Yoav Kutner, who is CEO and co-founder of Oro Inc., a provider of B2B e-commerce and CRM software. Kutner also co-founded and is a former executive of e-commerce software company Magento Inc.

“Due to our continued confidence in the talented founders of Akeneo and their amazing team, we decided to support this round of funding to enable the company to accelerate their international operations and to continue on the path to disrupt the PIM market,” says Jeremy Uzan, partner at Alven Capital.
