Fanatics teamed up with Uber to deliver hats and T-shirts to fans across Chicago.

The Cubs won their first World Series in over a century on Wednesday night, and online retailers are scrambling to cash in on the excitement.

Omnichannel sports apparel retailer Fanatics Inc., No. 38 in the Internet Retailer 2016 Top 500 Guide, teamed up with Uber to deliver Cubs championship merchandise starting at 10 a.m. Central on Thursday to fans across Chicago. Shoppers could choose to buy a T-shirt, a hat or both, by placing their orders through the Uber app.

Fanatics also featured Cubs merchandise on its home page with a banner reading “It Happened,” promoting an assortment of caps, apparel, and other memorabilia.

Fanatics was hardly alone in looking to cash in on the excitement surrounding the Cubs’ run, however. Kohl’s Corp. (No. 22) placed a banner promoting Cubs World Series merchandise on its home page.

Carson’s, a division of The Bon-Ton Stores Inc. (No. 169), sent an email with the subject line “CONGRATS, Chicago!” to customers a few minutes before 2 a.m. Thursday. The email featuring championship T-shirts, hoodies and hats encouraged fans to “celebrate the moment and fill your locker with memories of the historic run.” Carson’s also promoted on its website and in the email a limited-edition Waterford crystal baseball ($150) featuring the Cubs, World Series and Major League Baseball logos.

Housewares and home furnishings retailer Crate and Barrel (No. 71), with headquarters in the north suburbs of Chicago, prominently featured the World Series win on it home page Thursday. It doesn’t sell sports-related products but wanted to offer congratulations to its hometown team. The retailer used the Cubs logo for the “C” in its name and greeted site visitors with “Someday was last night. Cheers to our hometown team. #gocubsgo.”

Meanwhile, retailers who sell online and have a physical presence near Wrigley Field, such as Clark Street Sports and Wrigleyville Sports, also were also promoting their assortment of championship merchandise. Wrigleyville Sports, which has a store just outside the right-field gate of the Cubs’ ballpark, posted a message on its e-commerce site telling shoppers “Due to overwhelming demand from the Cubs first World Series in 71 years, orders will take 3-5 Business Days to process. Expedited Shipping only speeds up transit time once the package ships out and WILL NOT affect this processing time.”
