Josh Lieberman has been with the upscale retailer since 2012.

Upscale department store Barneys New York Inc. has a new head of e-commerce.

Josh Lieberman has been promoted to executive vice president of digital at Barneys. Lieberman joined Barneys in November 2012, most recently serving as senior vice president of digital marketing, according to his LinkedIn profile. He has also spent time with American Express and PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Lieberman replaces Matthew Woolsey, who left in September to take over as managing director of online luxury fashion retailer Net-A-Porter. Barneys is No. 168 in the 2016 Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, while Net-A-Porter’s parent company Yoox Net-A-Porter Group is No. 72.

Chief operating officer Daniella Vitale said Lieberman has been instrumental in Barneys’ online sales growth in his four years with Barneys.

“From behind the scenes Josh has really been the driver of our fast-growing e-commerce business and expanding digital portfolio,” she said. “We are thrilled that he will now oversee a business unit that will be the force behind Barneys’ growth. He is well respected and exemplifies the power of mentorship to a young but fast-growing team. Josh got us through an arduous replatforming and will provide clarity, vision and a proper strategy for the future.”

Lieberman was credited with overseeing the relaunch of Barneys’ online store last year, which was aimed at better catering to shoppers on mobile devices.
