The new 1 million square foot facility is QVC’s fifth.

TV and multichannel retailer QVC Group is heading west.

QVC, No. 10 in the Internet Retailer 2016 Top 500 Guide, has opened its first West Coast distribution center. The 1-million-square-foot facility is the company’s fifth distribution center and its first not located on the East Coast. The new facility is expected to eventually fulfill about 20% of QVC’s orders.

“The center is expected to lower the company’s use of trucking by more than 10 million miles annually, leading to a reduction of more than 35 million pounds of CO2 emissions per year,” the company said in announcing the facility’s opening.

In its second quarter earnings report earlier this month, QVC reported that e-commerce accounted for 50.9% of its sales in the U.S. during the quarter, marking only the second time that has ever happened.

QVC’s 2015 web sales were $4.276 billion, up 21.0% from $3.533 billion in 2014, according to Internet Retailer’s Top500Guide.com.
