Selling online since 1996, scientific products supplier VWR Corp. is still coming up with new ways to sell and service its customers through e-commerce.

The company last week acquired manufacturer and distributor Paw BioScience Products, which specializes in manufacturing and distributing sanitary fluid handling products used by manufacturers of biotechnology and biopharmaceutical products, expanding its already large e-commerce operations. VWR did not say what it paid for Paw BioScience, which before the acquisition was privately held and did not report financial figures.

“VWR bioprocessing customers will now have access to an even broader range of innovative products,” says VWR president and CEO Manual Brocke-Benz.

Paw BioScience, in business since 2000 and based in Eatontown, N.J., sells through the business-to-business e-commerce site Pawbio.com as well as through a staff of sales reps. Its products range from gaskets and tubing products priced at $1 each to gas analyzers and other laboratory equipment priced at more than $18,000. Online customers have the option to pay via Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express credit cards or PayPal. Paw BioScience offers free shipping on all online orders delivered to destinations within the United States.

VWR, which has said it does about half of its total sales online, reported a 6.7% increase in sales for its first quarter ended March 31, to $1.0983 billion from $1.0296 billion. In 2015, it recorded net sales of $4.319 billion, down 1.3% from $4.375 billion. VWR is ranked No. 86 in the B2B E-Commerce 300 with estimated 2015 online sales of $1.748 billion.

The Radnor, Pa.-based company also lets customers place orders of any size through a VWR2 Go mobile app, and use the VWR EasyScan system to automatically place online orders by scanning bar codes placed on product shelves. Last month it introduced an automated e-mail notification system to alert customers worldwide of order shipments and delivery dates.
