BigCommerce has for years specialized in helping small and mid-sized companies grow with its e-commerce technology, building a base of some 60,000 clients in B2B and retail e-commerce.

The company, founded in 2009, includes among its clients industrial pumps distributor Carotek Inc. and general merchandise distributor N2Surplus Inc. Carotek is No. 276 in the B2B E-Commerce 300, N2Surplus is No. 297. Other B2B clients include Primal Products LLC, a family-owned distributor of hygiene products.

Now BigCommerce has set its sights on serving larger companies as well, with the BigCommerce Enterprise software it introduced last year for companies doing up to $20 million in online sales. The move follows other steps it has taken in recent months to expand its market reach, including integrating its e-commerce technology with software from Salesforce.com Inc. to let companies insert Buy buttons into their Salesforce Community Cloud online B2B customer forums. In another deal it made last year, with China-based e-commerce giant Alibaba Group Holding Ltd., BigCommerce now lets companies that sell through its e-commerce software to also click from their BigCommerce platform to procure products from suppliers on the B2B e-commerce portal Alibaba.com.
