Vintage apparel retailer ModCloth, which sold exclusively online for most of its existence, has beefed up its marketing staff with the goal of accelerating its offline expansion.
Modcloth, No. 198 in the Internet Retailer 2015 Top 500 Guide, hired apparel industry veteran Mary Alderete as chief marketing officer and Mike Janover as vice president of marketing. The retailer also brought on board Elizabeth Cooksey, who had been working with ModCloth in an advisory role, in the newly created position of vice president of stores and retail operations.
Alderete had been the chief marketing officer at high-end jean manufacturer True Religion Brand Jeans, No. 721 in the Internet Retailer 2015 Second 500. She also served in executive-level roles with apparel manufacturers Levi Strauss & Co. (No. 212) and Gap Inc. (No. 18).
“Mary has an outstanding track record of brand building, creative execution and leading growth,” CEO Matthew Kaness said.
Janover most recently was managing director of e-commerce and digital marketing at California-based organic cosmetics manufacturer Juice Beauty Inc. He also served as a vice president at CBS Interactive and CNET. Cooksey, meanwhile, has served in director-level positions with Nike Inc. (No. 61) and Urban Outfitters Inc. (No. 49).
ModCloth began testing pop-up retail locations last year, and, in announcing its latest hires, says it plans to accelerate its offline expansion efforts this year.Favorite
