What’s bad for retail stores is good for Hilco Merchant Resources.

When Radio Shack filed for bankruptcy last year and proceeded to close more than 1,700 stores, it turned to Hilco Merchant Resources and other liquidation firms to recoup the maximum value for its liquidated assets.

When retailers or other companies need to sell off assets or find deals on liquidated merchandise, Hilco is often there to play a part with websites designed to help sellers and buyers connect. Now Hilco is growing its online business, acquiring this week Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Fixture Finders, a company that helps client companies dispose of fixed assets through its website, FixtureFinders.com.

FixtureFinders.com will continue to operate, but now under the formal name Hilco Fixture Finders LLC, as a unit of Hilco Merchant Resources. Hilco Fixture Finders will complement Hilco’s business of managing the sale of excess furniture, fixtures and equipment assets.

Buyers in search of liquidated assets can log onto FixtureFinders.com and HilcoMerchantResources.com to view available inventory at individual store or corporate locations and place orders. Payment transactions are completed offline.

“By combining Fixture Finders’ current business footprint with the depth and breadth of Hilco’s resources, we’ve created a powerful new company with enhanced capacity and facilities to deliver a broader offering of product and services to retailers nationwide,” says Michael Keefe, CEO of Hilco Merchant Resources.

Other retailers for which Hilco has recently provided asset disposition services are retail chain Kohl’s Corp., supermarket operator Haggen Holdings LLC and grocery chain Fresh & Easy. Kohl’s is No. 22 in the Internet Retailer Top 500, which ranks retailers on their annual web sales.

Hilco Merchant Resources also operates asset management site Hilcoffe.com and owns online daily-deal retailer Deal Genius LLC, which sells online at DealGenius.com. Hilco Merchant Resources is part of Northbrook, Ill.-based Hilco Global, an international provider of asset management services.
