At Coveroo.com, consumers can customize products with the logos of their favorite teams, colleges, artists and superheroes.

Zazzle Inc. will acquire Coveroo, a 7-year-old e-retailer of customizable goods, such as laptop and mobile phone cases. Zazzle did not say what it is paying for Coveroo.

Zazzle, No. 154 in the Internet Retailer 2015 Top 500 Guide and which sells a wide array of customizable products, says the acquisition will bring the e-retailer a way to deepen its bench, particularly in the sports vertical.

Coveroo, which sells online at Coveroo.com, has licensing agreements in place with groups including Major League Baseball, the National Hockey League and DC Comics, to let consumers create online customizable products using the brand assets, such as team logos, of those groups.

Coveroo’s key personnel will move to Zazzle. “We believe that fans—whether they’re interested in professional sports, entertainment, lifestyle brands or independent artists—should have the ability to create products with the teams and brand marks they love, in an environment sanctioned and encouraged by the brands themselves,” says Chris Boone, CEO of Coveroo. “As part of Zazzle, we’ll have the opportunity to develop and more effectively scale that marketplace.”

This is the second acquisition in the last 12 months for Zazzle, which operates sites for consumers in more than a dozen countries. In December, it acquired Boundless Network, a promotional products company, to better supply businesses with customized goods.
