Mattress Firm takes on delivery and setup services for mattress buyers on Wayfair.com.

Web-only retailer Wayfair LLC and Mattress Firm Inc. are joining forces to offer mattresses and box springs on Wayfair.com. The two Top 500 e-retailers can provide Wayfair.com shoppers access to products from major mattress makers, same-day delivery in most metropolitan markets in the U.S. and a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Wayfair, No. 33 in the Internet Retailer 2015 Top 500 Guide, will be able to shift mattress and box spring delivery to Mattress Firm as a result of the arrangement announced Tuesday. “Together, we are creating the optimal retail experience based on the best of e-commerce and the benefits of a localized shopping and delivery network,” says Niraj Shah, CEO and co-founder of Wayfair, a web-only seller of housewares and home furnishings.

Wayfair typically drop-ships large items such as sofas and dressers. The collaboration with Mattress Firm could reduce shipping costs for mattresses and related products. It’s the first such arrangement for Wayfair, according to a Wayfair spokeswoman. There are “no immediate plans to share yet” regarding similar agreements with other companies, she adds.

Mattress shoppers can access Wayfair.com’s more than 700 customer service staff, including mattress specialists who can offer advice and insight on making the right purchase, the company says. Mattress Firm, No. 492 in the Top 500, has more than 2,200 stores in 40 states that will provide delivery and setup services to Wayfair.com shoppers. And Mattress Firm gets potential exposure to 35.4 million visitors per month on Wayfair.com, according to Internet Retailer-estimates in the Top500Guide.com database.

Wayfair reported 2014 web sales of $1.30 billion, up 44% from $902.8 million in 2013. E-commerce sales on MattressFirm.com in 2014 reached an Internet Retailer-estimated $27.9 million, a 15% increase from $24.3 million in 2013.
