The two companies have agreed to integrate the Enterworks product information management software with Insite’s e-commerce software to improve how clients can dynamically display content based on factors like available inventory and targeted customers.

Insite Software, which specializes in providing e-commerce software to manufacturers, distributors and wholesalers, has agreed to collaborate with Enterworks to integrate the Enterworks Enable product information management software with Insite Commerce software, the two companies said today.

The collaboration will enable companies that operate e-commerce sites on Insite Commerce software to more quickly deploy Enterworks PIM software to manage how product content appears on their e-commerce sites as well as across online marketing channels, says Alan Littman, vice president of marketing for Insite. As a company updates product information according to changes in customer demand, competitive pricing and available inventory, the Enterworks PIM system ensures that the seller is working with a “single version of the truth” as it distributes product content across its web pages and marketing outlets, he adds.

Peter Sheldon, vice president and principal analyst for e-commerce technology at Forrester Research Inc., says the deal with Enterworks positions Insite to offer a more robust PIM application compared with what is now available as part of Insite Commerce. “Enterworks is filling a gap here for Insite,” he says.

Sheldon adds that several e-commerce software companies have been seeking ways to upgrade their PIM offerings to better compete with hybris Software, which is known for offering e-commerce and PIM software on a single technology platform.

Clients of Enterworks include manufacturers Fender Musical Instruments and Abbott Nutrition and distributors Big Rock Sports and Johnstone Supply, a provider of heating, ventilation and air-conditioning products. Insite’s customers include manufacturers Thule Inc. and Riedell Shoes, and distributors American Paper & Twine Co. and AmeriPride Services, a provider of corporate  uniforms and laundry services.

Enterworks is headed by CEO Rick Chavie, who joined the company in May after having been senior vice president in charge of, global solution management at hybris and head of the customer engagement and commerce group at hybris parent SAP AG. Enterworks is owned by Black Dragon Capital LLC, a private equity firm.

Tony Abena, CEO of Insite, says Insite is also working with other PIM software companies to broaden its software offerings. “We are working with a number of PIM providers to provide tailored solutions to the market,” he says. Those PIM companies include Riversand Technologies Inc., inRiver Inc. and Heiler Software, a unit of Informatica Corp.
