E-commerce veteran Miguel Almeida joins the athletic apparel manufacturer from Walgreen Co.

Fresh off a first quarter of double-digit online growth over Q1 2014, Lululemon Athletica Inc. has hired a new digital chief charged with continuing that momentum.

The athletic apparel manufacturer and retailer, No. 108 in the Internet Retailer 2015 Top 500 Guide, hired retail veteran Miguel Almeida as its new executive vice president of digital. This will be the first foray into the apparel industry for Almeida, who most recently was group vice president of digital commerce and mobile solutions for Walgreen Co., No. 44 in the Top 500. Almeida has also worked with Apple Inc. (No. 2) and Dell Inc. (No. 12).

Almeida’s hiring reinforces the company’s commitment to its evolving digital initiatives moving forward, Lululemon CEO Laurent Potdevin said in a statement.

“With his track record of accelerating digital transformations, Miguel is well-positioned to champion Lululemon’s digital world and lead our strong digital team in creating a seamless experience for our guests across all touch points—whether it’s in store, on the web or through a mobile device,” he said.

Top500Guide.com data shows Lululemon has experienced rapid sales growth over the past five years, up 476% during that time to an Internet Retailer-estimated $330.0 million in 2014 from $57.3 million in 2010. Nearly 57% of its shoppers are under the age of 44, with the majority of those (55.5%) being women.
