Strong consumer demand for international brands has contributed to the surge in business for subsite Haiwaigou.

In order to respond to the strong demands of Chinese consumers, six months ago Amazon.com Inc. launched a subsite, Haiwaigou, meaning “buying from overseas” in Chinese language, on its Chinese site Amazon.cn to sell products from its U.S. site.

Haiwaigou enables shoppers to browse and buy products on Amazon’s U.S. site in Chinese and to access Chinese-language customer services.

Now Amazon.cn sells more than 2 million products from about 30,000 international brands through Haiwaigou, Amazon says. The best-selling categories are shoes, apparel, kitchen wares, children products and sports goods.

Amazon says top popular brands on Haiwaigou are Clarks, Calvin Klein, Rebecca Minkoff, Skechers, Crocs, Thermos, Tommy Hilfiger, Nautica, Calvin Klein Jeans and Emporio Armani.

Amazon, which is No. 5 in the Internet Retailer 2015 China 500 Guide and No. 1 in the Top 500, didn’t disclose the sales, but it has confirmed that the sales on Haiwaigou have increased 300% in six months.

An executive at Amazon’s Logistics services provider told Internet Retailer that daily orders on Haiwaigou reached 15,000 three months into the launch of the service.
