The pilot program is an offshoot of its buy online, pick up in store option. The retailer also named three Nordstrom brothers as co-presidents.

Luxury retail chain Nordstrom is testing a curbside pickup program aimed at luxury shoppers in a rush.

The retailer is testing the program, which is available only via the website and not Nordstrom’s mobile app, in 20 stores, a company spokesman tells Internet Retailer.

“There is a number on your order you can call to arrange store pick up. If the customer selects curbside pickup, they call or text that same number when it’s convenient for them to let us know when, and we will bring their order out to them,” the spokesman said.

The curbside test is an offshoot of the retailer’s buy online, pick up in store program, which launched in 2008. Having that program in place, the spokesman says, makes it easier for Nordstrom to test the drive-up option.

Here’s how the curbside pickup option works: Shoppers will call or text a Nordstrom phone number when they’re ready to pick up their order, and they’ll park in a designated, marked spot to which a Nordstrom employee will deliver the order.

“We hope curbside pickup offers another option for customers who might be in a hurry, and makes it more convenient for customers to shop how they want,” the spokesman says. Customer reaction will help determine if the program expands to more of Nordstrom’s more than 300 stores across North America, he says.

In addition to piloting a curbside pickup program, Nordstrom announced that brothers Blake, Pete and Erik Nordstrom will serve as co-presidents of the company. Blake had been Nordstrom’s president since 2000, while his brothers had worked as executive vice presidents.  The brothers’ responsibilities and compensation within the company will not change, the company stated.

Nordstrom ranks No. 19 in the Internet Retailer 2015 Top 500 GuideTop500Guide.com data shows that Nordstrom’s e-commerce sales have grown over the past five years to $2.5 billion in 2014 from $705 million in 2009, a 255% increase.
