Mike McNamara comes from U.K.-based Tesco, where he had worked since 1999.

Target Corp. has hired Mike McNamara as executive vice president and chief information officer. He comes from U.K.-based Tesco PLC, where he had worked as chief information officer since 2011, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Target is No. 18 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide. Tesco is No. 3 in the Internet Retailer Europe 500.

McNamara replaces Bob DeRodes, who had been with Target since 2014 according to his LinkedIn profile and will be retiring. Target says DeRodes, with some 40 years of information technology experience, joined Target a little less than a year ago “with a focus on enhancing data security and technology infrastructure.” The retail chain in late 2013 suffered a data breach in which criminals stole information of up to 110 million Target customers. DeRodes will continue to work for a “short time” as senior advisor to Target.

Target credits McNamara with “modernizing and advancing Tesco’s I.T. and supply chain,” along with efforts to better tie the chain’s stores to the web. Tesco hired McNamara in 1999 as chief technology officer for Tesco.com, according to LinkedIn.

McNamara reports to Target chairman and CEO Brian Cornell. “Technology is critical for Target’s future success, so finding the right leader for this role was one of my absolute top priorities,” Cornell says. “Mike has been a driving force for technology innovation throughout his career. I’m excited to see how he’ll help our team continue to push new innovations that enhance the shopping experience for Target guests, both online and in stores.”
