Ross Clemmow is charged with further developing the department store chain’s web sales domestically and internationally.

Debenhams Plc has promoted Ross Clemmow to the job of e-commerce director. Clemmow joined the U.K.-based department store retailer last summer as divisional trading director of e-commerce.

Debenhams is No. 68 in the 2013 Europe 500 and had Internet Retailer-estimated web sales of $378.9 million in 2012, up 39.1% from a year earlier.

“Online retail sales are increasingly important to Debenhams and in his new role, Ross will continue to develop our digital proposition and help support our strategy of becoming a leading international, multi-channel brand,” says Michael Sharp, Debenhams’ chief executive officer.

Clemmow came to Debenhams from home and general merchandise retailer Argos, where he was director of e-commerce and multichannel strategy. Argos is owned by Home Retail Group, No. 4 in the Europe 500.

Debenhams sells and ships to consumers in more than 60 countries, according to its web site. It has 240 stores across 28 countries.
