Hailing from the NFL, Gary Gertzog becomes executive vice president.

E-retailer Fanatics Inc. has hired Gary Gertzog as executive vice president of business affairs. He is the fourth high-level executive to join Fanatics, No. 43 in the 2013 Top 500 Guide, in the last 18 months.

Gertzog worked for the National Football League for almost 20 years, most recently as senior vice president, business affairs and general counsel. At Fanatics he will be responsible for business and government affairs, and legal and corporate development, the e-retailer says. He will also have a say in developing Fanatics’ strategic growth initiatives. Fanatics, which generated $764 million in sales online in 2012, has said it wants to reach $1 billion in online sales this year.

“There are many exciting developments happening at Fanatics right now, and we are thrilled to be adding someone with the background and strategic expertise across multiple categories that Gary brings to the company,” says Alan Trager, Fanatics CEO.

Fanatics in July hired David Katz as senior vice president and general manager of mobile. Katz previously worked at Groupon Inc. Fanatics also hired Jamie Davis as president and Jack Boyle as president of merchandising. Davis came from the TV sports industry and Boyle from chain retailer Kohl’s Corp. Groupon is No. 65 in the Top 500; Kohl’s is No. 26.

Fanatics is an online licensed sports products retailer owned and operated by Kynetic LLC. Kynetic was founded as a new online retail and e-commerce technology services company by former GSI Commerce CEO Michael Rubin after eBay Inc. acquired most of the assets of GSI Commerce in 2011. Fanatics operates its own e-commerce sites, including Fanatics.com and FansEdge.com, and operates licensed sports apparel sites on the behalf of other retailers, charging fees for its services. Clients include major sports leagues, including the National Football League.
