The new chief operating officer was an executive at dating firm eHarmony.

London-based Shutl, which plans to launch same-day delivery in the United States, has made two executive hires. Shutl already offers same-day shipments in the United Kingdom.

Sean Cornwell takes over as chief operating officer, a job that includes helping the company expand internationally.

Cornwell’s experience includes managing director and vice president of international and mobile for online dating company eHarmony.com, where he worked form 2008 until 2012, according to his LinkedIn profile. Between 2005 and 2008 he worked as group product marketing manager for Europe, the Middle East and Africa for Google Inc. Most recently, he was as non-executive director for Love Home Swap, a vacation home exchange service.

Mike Fiorito becomes Shutl’s head of North American operations, a job that involves building up the company’s courier network. He had worked at logistics and same-day delivery company Urban Express, where he was president and CEO, according to this LinkedIn profile.

“We are delighted for Sean and Mike to join Shutl,” says Tom Allason, founder and CEO of Shutl. “They bring a wealth of experience developing and scaling consumer-internet and courier businesses across U.S. and globe.”

After completing its rollout in New York, Chicago and San Francisco, Shutl plans to enter Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Diego, Seattle, Tampa, Washington, Montreal and Toronto.

Shutl plans to start its U.S. services in September, says founder and CEO Tom Allason, after earlier expecting the launch by summer. “Completing retail integrations in particular took more time than expected,” he says.  “As you would expect, our retail partners are driven by their timelines, not ours.  In retrospect, we were a little ambitious, however, we are very happy with our progress.”
