U.K. affiliate network Affiliate Window is on course for a smashing year in mobile commerce. The network reports last month it recorded its millionth sale via mobile device for 2013—it took until August last year to reach that mark.

“The way consumers are accessing the Internet is rapidly evolving,” says Matt Swan, client strategist at Affiliate Window, which has more than 10,000 sites in its network. “Consumer confidence in mobile commerce is also growing. More and more consumers are now turning to these devices to transact as well as for research purposes. Additionally, a significant number of retailers and affiliate sites are optimizing their mobile presence, making it even more convenient for consumers to shop through these devices. With the rate that we are seeing m-commerce grow, we can realistically expect this millionth milestone to be hit even earlier next year.”

Affiliate Window hit some other records last month. Traffic volume through mobile devices in March 2013 was three times higher than it was in March 2012. The network recorded more traffic and sales through smartphones in March 2013 than it did in the whole of Q1 2012. And March 2013 saw the highest traffic volume through the iPhone the network has ever recorded. Affiliate Window did not reveal exact amounts for traffic and sales.

Last month, 21.14% of traffic came through mobile devices, up from 20.68% in February 2013, the network reports. 12.53% of traffic stemmed from smartphones, up from 12.48% in February. 8.61% of traffic in March came from tablets, up from 8.20% in February.

Mobile traffic converted at 3.26% in March, down from 3.43% in February, Affiliate Window says.

14.20% of total sales were through mobile devices in March, up from 13.70% in February, the network says. 5.57% of sales stemmed from smartphones, down from 5.58% in February. 8.63% of sales came from tablets, up from 8.12% in February.
