The 1-million-square-foot facility will open in 2014, the e-retailer says.

Amazon.com Inc. said today it would open a 1-million-square-foot warehouse in Robbinsville, NJ, in 2014. The fulfillment center will employ hundreds of full-time workers, says the e-retailer, No. 1 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide.

“We are excited to open our first fulfillment center in New Jersey, bringing jobs and investment to Robbinsville Township,” says Mike Roth, vice president of Amazon’s North American Operations. “We appreciate the support of the New Jersey Economic Development Authority, New Jersey Business Action Center, and other state and local leaders who have worked with us to find this site.”

Last year, the e-retailer made a deal with New Jersey under which Amazon in 2013 would start collecting sales taxes for purchases made from it by state residents. Amazon said it would build two warehouses in New Jersey. Amazon has similar deals in other states, including Virginia, Indiana and Tennessee.

Amazon says the warehouse will cost some $200 million. KTR Capital Partners, a private equity firm, will handle construction, Amazon says.

Late last year, Amazon said it would open a 1 million-square-foot warehouse in Du Pont, WA, in fall 2013. Amazon has said it employs some 20,000 full-time fulfillment workers in at least 40 U.S. fulfillment centers.
