Sue Gove takes over for Martin Hanaka, who remains as an advisor.

Golfsmith International Holdings Inc. has named Sue Gove as its new CEO. Gove joined the multichannel retailer of golf gear in 2008 as chief operating officer. She replaces Martin Hanaka as CEO.

Hanaka has worked as Golfsmith’s CEO since 2008 and will remain with the retailer in an advisory role through the end of the year, the company says. Golfsmith is No. 209 in Internet Retailer’s Top 500 Guide.

It’s been an eventful year for Golfsmith. Golf Town, a multichannel retailer of golf gear based in Canada and owned by Omers Private Equity Inc., acquired Golfsmith in July. Outwardly, Golfsmith and Golf Town continue to do business as their own brands but both are now operated by Golfsmith International.

When Golf Town and Omers announced the acquisition in May, Hanaka was named CEO of the combined companies.

Previously, Gove was chief operating officer of Zale Corp. She  is also a board member of AutoZone Inc. Zale is No. 190 in the Top 500 Guide. AutoZone is No. 121.
