With the acquisition of Acceloweb, Limelight adds web performance technology.

Content delivery network Limelight Networks Inc. said today it had bought Acceloweb, an Israel-based company that sells web site acceleration technology. Limelight did not say how much it paid for Acceloweb.

Limelight helps retailers to make their web pages load more quickly, especially as more consumers view videos, download music and take advantage of other services that can tax servers. Limelight says it will combine its technology with Acceloweb’s to make clients’ web pages load faster. Limelight says it has 1,800 customers around the world. The company also provides digital advertising services.

“The web application acceleration market is large and growing rapidly as enterprise and consumer applications migrate into the cloud,” says Jeff Lunsford, Limelight’s chairman and CEO. “The talented Acceloweb team has built the most innovative solution in the sector and we are excited to join forces with them.”

Limelight said it bought the company through a combination of cash and common stock.
