The Internet Retailer Online Retail Index of 25 e-commerce stocks moved ahead 1.15% last week, just a bit behind the bullish broader market. 1-800-Flowers.com gained nearly 20%, but investors punished Digital River for losing its biggest client, security software maker Symantec.
Shares of Digital River fell nearly 39% for the week after Symantec said it would move to its own e-commerce platform over the next eight months, instead of selling software through Digital River. Digital River, which specializes in providing e-commerce services to retailers of software and other digital products, was one of eight Online Retail Index stocks to lose ground last week.
While most stocks in the index advanced, the Online Retail Index could not quite keep up with the market as a whole, as the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 1.33% last week and the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index gained 1.51%.
