Target Corp. has promoted Michael Francis from executive vice president of marketing to executive vice president and chief marketing officer.

Francis gains e-commerce duties in his new role. He now is responsible for all marketing functions, as well as strategy and research, community relations and Target.com.

Francis has been with Target for more than 20 years. Prior to his position as executive vice president of marketing, he served as senior vice president of marketing.

In addition to his Target position, Francis serves as a director of Piper Jaffray Companies, an investment bank and securities firm.

Besides its e-commerce site, Target operates 1,648 stores in 47 states. Target is No. 19 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide.
