PHOENIX, Dec. 9 /PRNewswire/ — PING golf equipment — the industry leader in custom-fitting and putter design/manufacturing innovation — has come up with an easy way for golfers to create their own custom-designed PING SPECIFY(TM) putter.

And all that a golfer needs is a computer and access to the Internet. It`s that simple by visiting: www.PINGgolf.com/Specify .

PING is the first golf equipment company to offer this specialized and personal service online to golfers.

And there is no cost involved, until golfers actually place an order for the SPECIFY putter of their choice at a pro shop or retail store.

“With the interactivity that the worldwide web provides, this is a natural opportunity to move golfers from the putting green to the computer screen to create their own SPECIFY putter,” said John A. Solheim, PING Chairman & CEO.

“The process of choosing a SPECIFY made it a natural application to the web because of all the options which are available,” said Solheim.

Golfers will be able to custom design each new SPECIFY putter, including the hosel style, look, feel and weight — the ultimate in custom putter fitting.

Being offered in the SPECIFY online putter program are four hosel designs to match a golfer`s set-up and stroke. Included in the hosels are the tour proven ANSER, the flare tip that resembles a PAL(TM) 2, the flat top that is similar to the ALLY 2, and a face-balanced, long-neck hosel.

Three body styles are offered to suit the golfer`s eye, including the popular ANSER, ALLY and ZING. The ANSER and ZING back designs will have an alignment line on the trailing edge of the putter, while the ALLY flange will feature two lines that capture the sweet spot for easy alignment.

Three head weights, chosen by golfers in extensive swing weight putter testing, will be offered in light, standard and heavy models.

The face and the back of each SPECIFY putter are joined by two stainless steel, cadmium-plated screws that seat into the back, which is made from a polymer combined with a heavy tungsten powder. A thin layer of very high bond adhesive permanently joins the face and back, enhancing the feel.

In summary, golfers will be able to specify the hosel that complements their stroke, the putter body design that suits their optics to instill confidence, and the desired weight to enhance feel. In total, 36 custom fit putter options are available in the design of the PING SPECIFY putter.

Once the putter is created, the golfer can either print a picture or have a large image of the putter e-mailed to them from PING.

In addition, the golfer can search the Retailer Locator on the PING web site for the nearest location to order their SPECIFY putter. At the pro shop or retail store, the golfer can explore additional putter fitting options including length, lie, loft and grip.

“This new online program will not only help the consumer understand the concept and options available with the SPECIFY putter, it is another example of how our company supports its retailers with innovation and service,” said Solheim.

The PING SPECIFY putter site has been launched in conjunction with an upgrade and refresh of the PING web site, including an introduction of the 2003 PING product line of new PING i3+ irons, PING Wedges, golf bags, JAS and G2 putters and accessories.

Every PING SPECIFY putter will be serialized and available in right-hand models. Left-handed models are currently available only with the ANSER hosel. MSRP is $175.
